FINELY CRAFTED JOURNEYS

Koel Purie’s Journey of Reconnecting with Herself

Zoya honours the profound journey of a woman reconnecting with her feminine self through bespoke creations that celebrate her true essence. In our Finely Crafted Journeys column, we share insights from the lives of iconic women who have left an indelible mark on the world.

In this edition, our muse is Koel Purie Rinchet, an award-winning actress, producer and writer who has interviewed presidents and actors alike on her show On the Couch with Koel.

Starting life afresh in Paris after her marriage, Purie Rinchet worked hard to find her way in a new city. She came across many stories and experiences that form the substance of her debut book, Clearly Invisible in Paris. She also scripted her first play — Mummy's Dead, Long Live Mummy! - which debuted in Paris followed by sold-out shows in India and London. Purie Rinchet was recently seen in Zoya Akhtar's film The Archies.

Tell us about your journey.

My journey with TV began long before the onset of the digital age. With the audacity of youth on my side, I created, produced and acted in Aaj ki Naari, a daily television show championing the rights of women on Doordarshan. The success of that show taught me that if you believe in something and you work for it then nothing is impossible.

What do you enjoy the most about your craft?

The power of imagination and living someone else's life for a moment.

How has your journey renewed your connection with yourself?

It's not always easy to have clarity on your goals but I've learnt to sit down with myself and visualise where and who I want to be. With this has come the realisation that no one except you is going to do it for you. Nothing will be achieved without working and walking towards it.

ZOYA and you...

I'm wearing ZOYA's signature collection 'My Embrace', which is designed around the idea of celebrating who you are. In my life, women have always played a central role and I love that every piece in ZOYA celebrates women and their journey to live the life they want.
